I had an important file that became corrupted. I have two backups, but the backups simply copied the corrupted file. I tried this service and in about 2 minutes had full recovery of the file. Excellent.

How to recover, open and convert Outlook data through the online service Recovery Toolbox for Outlook
Corrupt Microsoft Outlook data files - PST (Personal Storage Table) and OST (Offline Storage Table) are one of the most common reasons for losing access to emails, calendars, contacts and other essential items. Typical manifestations of Outlook data file corruption are:
- endless indexing;
- sudden crashes of the client, the Outlook program;
- incorrectly opened folders;
- Microsoft Outlook program freezing in RAM;
- 0x8004010F error: Outlook data file cannot be accessed.
Other functional scenarios of using Recovery Toolbox for Outlook online service and program:
- migration of mail profiles;
- converting OST files (Offline Storage Table) to PST files (Personal Storage Table);
- transfer correspondence between machines;
- Export correspondence to EML/MSG formats for e-Discovery and archiving.
Here we will reveal, describe and show you how to solve the entire range of Outlook data problems through the online service on the Online Data Recovery Service page - without software installation, MAPI drivers and without being tied to a Microsoft Office version. We'll break down step-by-step scenarios, technical limitations, and best practices so you can quickly regain access to mail and metadata, export messages correctly, and minimise the risks of re-damaging PST files.
When an online approach is appropriate
An online service is excellent in situations where:
- No rights to install software on the corporate station, or the information security policy prohibits third-party executable files.
- You need to quickly check the contents of a corrupted PST/OST and see if you can recover the folder tree, emails, attachments and calendar items - before purchasing a desktop solution.
- Conversion/export required (e.g. preparing a batch of emails for further processing in other systems, or getting a "clean" Unicode PST to import into a new profile).
- Independence from Outlook version and architecture (32/64-bit), MAPI drivers and local RAM limitations is essential: the web service processes data server-side and does not require local integration with Outlook.
Notes:for initial familiarisation with the contents of mail folders and email databases, there is also a free viewer of PST/OST files in Recovery Toolbox for Outlook. It allows you to view even corrupted files, search for emails and contacts. For macOS/iOS/Android, you can do this through the online version here.
What precisely the online service can do
- Loads Microsoft Outlook PST/OST files on the initial page. The essential files in Outlook are *.pst and *.ost files, where emails, contacts, attachments, appointments, reminders and other things are stored.
- The service analyses the downloaded Outlook file.
- After the analysis, the recovered data preview page provides information about the recovered file, a folder structure view, and a summary of the amount and type of data recovered.
- Downloading the recovered PST file: If the recovery was successful and the results are satisfactory, you can download the final recovered PST file after paying for the service.
Notes, Restrictions and Storage Policy:
- No size limit on PST/OST files;
- Password-protected files are read in the same way as regular files.
- Encrypted files are decrypted automatically without passwords.
- Files are automatically deleted from the server after 30 days.
- The recovery cost is per gigabyte of the original file.
Fast recovery of corrupted PST file
Problem: POP3/IMAP profile data file won't open, ScanPST utility doesn't help, Microsoft Outlook hangs on indexing.
How to fix the problem online:
- Open the online service page at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and click Select File. Specify your problematic *.pst file.
- Enter your contact e-mail - notifications and links will be sent to it.
- Click Next and wait for processing. The progress of downloading, restoring, and saving the PST file is displayed.
- After recovery, the preview (folder tree, items) of data is available, and a demo PST file with a fully saved folder structure and five saved items per folder is available.
- Download the result as a PST file after payment on the result download page.
As a result of the online service, you get a working PST file with a copy of the contents from the corrupted database, ready to be imported into a new Microsoft Outlook profile. The preview option assures you that the target folders and messages are really recoverable.
Convert and restore OST file for use in Outlook
Problem: Only the OST file from the old profile/domain, Exchange/AD, Gmail/Yahoo/HotMail, etc., is available, but authorisation and/or access is not possible. Microsoft Outlook does not know how to import .ost directly without authorisation or access.
Online solution:
- Upload the original .ost file to an online service (as with PST).
- Wait for the analysis to finish and check the folder tree in the preview.
- Download the result as a PST file.
- Add the PST file to Outlook on a new machine/in a new profile and regain access to your correspondence, contacts and calendar.
There is no limitation on the size and version of the original OST file for the online service.
Solution for error 0x8004010F: Outlook data file cannot be accessed
This error 0x8004010F means that Outlook cannot access the data file (PST for POP3 or OST for IMAP/Exchange). Causes of error 0x8004010F: incorrect paths, duplicate Personal Store bindings, and missing source file on disk.
Online approach to fixing error 0x8004010F:
- If a corrupted file causes the error, restore the problematic PST/OST via an online service (see Scenario 1-2).
- Connect the recovered file in Outlook as a new data file and, if necessary, make it the "default" data file via File → Details → Account Settings → Data Files. (The procedure for changing/adjusting the path to the main PST is described on the product pages.)
- Make sure that there are no duplicate entries for the same PST in the profile, and that the path to the active storage is correct. If you have previously seen the message "pst is already in use with this profile", close the unnecessary Personal Store Folders and assign the proper path.
Summary:Replacing the corrupted storage with the recovered one, along with correcting the binding in the Outlook profile, is a reliable practice for fixing error 0x8004010F.
Repair Outlook 2019 online and import the correct PST file
In actual computer data migrations, for example, from Outlook 2016/2013 to Outlook 2019, it is often required to clear the Mail profile in Windows and reconnect the correct PST file.
Recommended Procedure:
- Make backups of all PST/OSTs before any manipulation.
- If the original PST is corrupted, repair it online and download the result.
- In Outlook 2019, open File → Details → Account Settings → Data Files and add the correct path to the restored PST file. If necessary, remove the old binding and set the new PST file as the default data file.
With this sequence of actions, you can correctly and losslessly transfer data to Outlook 2019 in case of an incorrect software update.
These same steps will allow you to quickly and correctly import a PST file when migrating from/to Outlook 2016. The online import of the Outlook 2016 PST file is completely similar to the 2019 version.
Complimentary online view of PST / OST file contents
In case you need to view the contents of a PST or OST file quickly and for free, but you don't have a Windows computer with Microsoft Outlook installed, the online service allows you to do it from any device in a couple of clicks. It is enough to:
- Open the service page at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/
- Select a PST or OST file.
- Click the Next button.
- View the contents of the PST file directly in your browser.
Everything is fast, versatile, easy and can be done from any iOS/Android/macOS device.
Limitations, cost and storage policy
- File size: The service has no restrictions on the size of the files uploaded.
- Passwords: the online service handles PST/OST files protected by passwords.
- Cost: the cost is specified as a fixed price per 1 GB of the original file.
- Storage and deletion: files are automatically deleted from the server after 30 days of storage.
Best practices
- Do not save the result on top of the original file. Please keep the original corrupted file separately until it is fully verified.
- Keep backups: make regular .pst archives in Unicode format, perform project uploads in EML/MSG formats.
- Check the structure after import: make sure that the main folders (Inbox/Sent/Calendar/Contacts) are mapped correctly and that custom views do not hide items.
- Test calendar and tasks (reminders, recurring events) separately, as these object classes are sensitive to property and time zone integrity.
- Do not allow multiple services (indexing, antivirus, cloud synchronisation) to open the same PST file simultaneously during import/restore - this is a frequent cause of conflicts and file locks.
- Actualise profiles: after a crash, create a new Outlook profile and connect the recovered PST as the main data file. This removes accumulated artefacts and conflicts.
Conclusion
The Recovery Toolbox for Outlook online service addresses the typical triangle of tasks for the Outlook ecosystem: recovering corrupted PST/OST files, previewing content before purchase/import, and exporting data into audit- and migration-friendly formats. In almost all everyday cases, the actions upload → check → download → connect are sufficient, without installing IMAP/MAPI components and fighting Microsoft Outlook's architectural limitations—split large PST files into many small files.

Frequently Asked Questions Word Repair Online
The PST file stopped opening after a sudden power outage
How to Recover an Outlook 2024 PST File After a Power Outage and a Personal Folders Error
Question:
I had a working Microsoft Outlook 2024 PST file on an external USB SSD drive, which I used on my Windows 11 laptop to store several years' worth of emails, contacts, and calendars. While I was working, the power suddenly went out, the laptop shut down, and when I restarted Outlook, it stopped connecting to the archive and displayed the message: The file outlook.pst is not a personal folders file. I copied the file from the USB drive to the internal SSD, but Outlook 2024 still considers it invalid. Is it possible to extract emails and other data from this PST file online without modifying the original corrupted file?
Answer:
This type of corruption could have occurred if Outlook was writing changes to the PST file's structure at the exact moment the computer shut down unexpectedly or the USB drive was disconnected. As a result, the file itself may be the correct size, but Outlook may no longer recognise its internal tables and service structures as a valid Personal Folders store. Before recovery, it is advisable to leave the original PST file untouched and work with a copy. You can upload a copy of the corrupted file to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ via a browser from a laptop, tablet, or phone. The service analyses the contents of the PST file regardless of whether Microsoft Outlook can open it normally. Then it generates a new Unicode-formatted PST file containing the recovered emails, folders, contacts, calendar items, and other available elements. The resulting PST file should be saved separately from the damaged original and then connected to or imported into a compatible desktop version of Outlook. For users who need outlook pst repair online, working from a copy helps preserve the damaged source file for any later recovery attempt.
Outlook reports PST file errors after syncing via OneDrive
Recovering an Outlook PST File for Microsoft 365 After a OneDrive Sync Conflict
Question:
I use the classic version of Outlook for Microsoft 365 on a desktop computer running Windows 11, and the PST file containing my local Outlook data was accidentally stored in a OneDrive folder for several months. After a synchronisation conflict, Outlook stopped displaying some of my old emails. When I try to open the archive, it displays the following message: Errors have been detected in the file outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about the Inbox Repair Tool, see Help. I closed Outlook and restarted my computer, but the message keeps appearing. How can I recover data from the PST file, since I need not only my emails but also my contacts, appointments, and attachments?
Answer:
In this case, the issue may have been caused by a conflict between an Outlook entry in the PST file and the simultaneous synchronisation of another version of the file via OneDrive. If different sections of a large PST file were updated or uploaded to the cloud without being a single, consistent version, the storage's logical structure could have become inconsistent. First, copy the problematic PST file from the synced folder to a regular local directory and save the original as a backup. Then, you can upload this copy to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online cloud service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ for recovery, without installing any additional recovery software on Windows. After analysis, the service compiles the recovered data into a new PST file, so you no longer need to use the corrupted archive as your primary storage. It's a good idea to first test the new file in Outlook separately from your current profile and only then move the necessary folders or items into your working email structure. If you are searching for repair pst file outlook, the safest starting point after a OneDrive conflict is a local backup copy rather than the actively synced archive.
Scanpst does not recognise the PST file from the NAS at all
What to Do If the Inbox Repair Tool Doesn't Recognise an Outlook 2019 PST File from a NAS
Question:
For many years, I've been connecting an archived PST file on my work computer running Windows 10 and Microsoft Outlook 2019, with a backup stored on my home NAS. After the NAS failed and the array was restored, the file was copied back to the computer. It has the same size as before, but Scanpst.exe displays the following message: The Inbox Repair Tool doesn't recognise the file outlook.pst. No information can be recovered. Outlook also doesn't display the archive folders, even though the PST file should contain tens of thousands of emails and contacts. Is there any point in trying online recovery if Microsoft's built-in utility doesn't even recognise the file structure?
Answer:
This message usually means that Scanpst cannot correctly read the PST file's core structural elements, not necessarily that every user object within the file has been destroyed. After a NAS failure, individual blocks of a large file may have been recovered correctly, while the header, data allocation table, or other structural areas may have been corrupted. To start, it's best to create an additional copy of the PST file and avoid running repeated repair operations on the only copy. You can upload the copy to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, where the file will be analysed to search for recoverable objects within the corrupted container. If emails, contacts, calendar entries, tasks, or attachments can be recovered, the service saves the retrieved information to a new Unicode PST file. After downloading, this PST file can be opened on a computer running Outlook 2019, and the recovered folders can be compared with the contents of the NAS backups. In this situation, outlook pst recovery online can still be useful even when Scanpst cannot recognize the PST file's main structure.
The PST file became corrupted after bad sectors appeared
Online Recovery of an Outlook 2016 PST File After Hard Drive Errors
Question:
I have an old work laptop running Windows 10 and Microsoft Outlook 2016, where a PST file about 14 GB in size was stored on the hard drive, which recently started running very slowly and showing read errors. After copying the file to a new SSD, Outlook won't open it, and when I try to repair it, the following message appears: An unexpected error prevented access to this file. Use ScanDisk to check the disk for errors, and then try using the Inbox Repair tool again. I've already retrieved the PST file itself from the old drive and don't want to access the faulty drive again. What's the safest way to try to recover my emails and calendar from the file?
Answer:
Scanpst freezes when checking a large PST file
How to recover an Outlook 2021 PST file if Scanpst.exe freezes indefinitely
Question:
I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2021 on a gaming PC running Windows 11, and my main PST file has grown to about 35 GB and contains emails, contacts, RSS folders, and a calendar spanning several years. After a false positive from my antivirus software, Outlook crashed; now the built-in repair tool gets stuck at one stage and essentially does nothing: The Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) hangs indefinitely and doesn't perform the repair. I've let Scanpst run several times, but the result remains the same. Is there another way to repair the file without installing another program on this computer?
Answer:
An antivirus scan may have coincided with Outlook writing to a large PST file or temporarily blocked access to part of the file, after which the internal storage tables became inconsistent. With a large and severely corrupted PST file, Scanpst may repeatedly return to the problematic structure and fail to complete the file repair. Instead of continuing to experiment with the original file, you can make a copy of it and upload it to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ using a standard web browser. The PST file recovery is performed on the service's end, so a freeze in the local Scanpst.exe process does not affect this procedure. After analysis, the recovered items are saved to a new Unicode PST file, which you can download to your computer. Next, delete the problematic PST file from Outlook. Then, import the new PST file into Outlook 2021 as a separate storage file and verify that your most important folders, contacts, appointments, and attachments are present. For a large archive that causes Scanpst to hang, outlook pst file repair online avoids relying on the local repair process that is already freezing.
Scanpst completed successfully, but the needed emails are missing
How to Recover an Outlook 2013 PST File Again If the File Is Empty After Running Scanpst
Question:
On my old computer running Windows 7, I use Microsoft Outlook 2013 and maintain a separate PST file containing archived emails from previous years. After a system crash, I ran Scanpst; the utility reported that the repair was complete, but the PST file that opened was almost empty and did not contain the folders I needed: The PST file fixed by the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst) is empty or doesn't contain the desired items. I still have a copy of the PST file from before I ran Scanpst. Is it possible to try to recover the data directly from the original, corrupted version of the PST file?
Answer:
Yes, in a situation like this, the most valuable resource is the backup copy of the PST file created before the repair attempt. When restoring the structure, Scanpst may delete or exclude items that cannot be correctly linked to existing folders, so the file that opens may not always contain all the expected data. You should not replace the original copy with the result supposedly repaired using Scanpst, or perform any new operations on it. It is better to upload the original corrupted PST file to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and perform a recovery. The online service will create a separate new PST file from the items it manages to extract from the original file. After that, you can open both the Scanpst result and the result of the online recovery in Outlook 2013 at the same time and check which file contains more of the messages, contacts, and calendar entries you need. Using the untouched pre-Scanpst copy for online outlook repair gives you a second recovery result to compare with the nearly empty file produced by the built-in tool.
Outlook stopped launching after the local archive became corrupted
Restoring the email archive if Outlook displays Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook
Question:
I was working in Microsoft Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 computer via an RDP remote desktop, and the computer unexpectedly restarted while I was closing the remote session. Since then, Outlook won't start and immediately displays the message: Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. The profile contained a large local PST file with project correspondence, client contacts, and appointments, and temporarily disabling it allows Outlook to start. How can I restore only the data from this archive, rather than the entire Outlook profile?
Answer:
If Outlook starts working after the PST file is disconnected, the problem may indeed be related to corruption in the connected data file, rather than the program installation itself. An abrupt termination of the RDP session or a reboot during the write operation may have left unfinished changes in the PST file's structure. It's best to copy the corrupted file to a separate folder and perform recovery operations on a copy of the PST file. You can upload this copy to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ from another computer, Mac, tablet, or phone if the problematic Windows PC is difficult to use. After server-side analysis, the recovered items are saved to a new PST file. You can then launch Outlook on a Windows computer without the corrupted archive and connect the recovered PST file separately to restore the messages and other items you need without having to recover the entire profile. For anyone researching how to repair pst files online, this copy-first method allows the archive data to be recovered without rebuilding the entire Outlook profile.
Outlook 2024 Won't Open After a Windows 11 Update
What to Do with a Corrupted Outlook 2024 OST File After a Windows Update
Question:
Microsoft Outlook 2024 is installed on a laptop running Windows 11, connected to a work Exchange account, and local data is stored in an OST file. After a major Windows update, the computer restarted several times, and now Outlook crashes with the error Cannot open the Outlook window. Additionally, some of the old emails are no longer on the server and existed only in the local cache. I have a copy of the old OST file from the user's profile. Is it possible to extract the data from it using an online service and get it in a more convenient format?
Answer:
If the Exchange server contains a complete, up-to-date copy of the mailbox, you can often recreate the OST file from scratch. However, this won't help with local items that are no longer on the server. In your case, it makes sense to save the old copy of the OST file separately and prevent Outlook from overwriting it with a new cache. Next, upload the OST file to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online cloud recovery service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ to extract data from the OST file. You can upload a copy of the OST file directly to the service via a web browser. During the analysis, the cloud service attempts to find accessible email messages, contacts, calendar items, and other objects within the corrupted OST file. The result is saved not as a new OST file, but as a Unicode PST file. This PST file can then be connected to a compatible desktop version of Outlook, allowing you to view the recovered data separately without interfering with the new Exchange cache in the updated OST file. Although this case involves an OST file, users also asking how to repair outlook pst file online can follow the same principle of preserving the source file and recovering data into a separate PST.
After the computer woke up from Sleep Mode, the folder tree stopped opening
Recovering Outlook OST/PST Files for Microsoft 365 After a Sleep Mode Failure
Question:
I'm running Outlook for Microsoft 365 on my Windows 11 laptop, and last night I closed the lid while leaving Outlook running with emails and the calendar open. This morning, the computer didn't wake up from Sleep Mode properly; several apps froze, and after restarting, Outlook displays the message: The set of folders cannot be opened. My profile contains an OST file from Microsoft 365 and a separate PST file with local archives. Interestingly, after turning off the PST file, Outlook starts running more stably. How can I figure out what to restore, and how can I avoid losing my local email history?
Answer:
First, it's helpful to distinguish between synchronised data and local data: an OST file is typically linked to a server mailbox, while an archived PST file may contain the only local copies of old messages. If the error disappears specifically after disconnecting the PST file, you should first save a copy of that file and check it separately. A failure to exit Sleep Mode may have interrupted the write operation to storage while Outlook still had the file open. You can upload a corrupted PST file to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ for recovery. If you suspect the OST file is the issue and it contains unique local objects, the service can also recover OST files, but it saves the data from them to PST files. After recovery, the extracted information is saved to a new PST file. It's best to connect the resulting PST file to Outlook—which is already running—as an additional storage location, rather than replacing your current working profile with it. A Microsoft Outlook recovery online workflow is especially useful here because the recovered PST can be attached separately after Outlook itself is stable again.
CHKDSK repaired the disk, but Outlook 2007 still detects errors in the PST file
How to Recover an Outlook 2007 PST File After Running CHKDSK in Windows 7
Question:
On my home PC running Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2007, after an improper shutdown, the system automatically ran CHKDSK and fixed file system errors. The PST file itself remained intact afterwards, but Outlook cannot open the archive properly and displays the message: Errors have been detected in the file [c:...pst]. The archive contained emails with attachments, contacts, and calendar entries spanning approximately six years. Can online recovery help if CHKDSK has already altered the file structure on the disk?
Answer:
CHKDSK repairs the disk's file system structure but does not address the internal format logic of Microsoft Outlook PST files. As a result, the file may become readable again at the Windows level while remaining corrupted internally. Immediately after such an incident, it's a good idea to make several copies of the PST file and avoid running automatic repairs on the single remaining copy. You can upload one copy to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ to analyse the Outlook structure. The service attempts to extract recoverable objects and transfers the found data to a new Unicode PST file instead of modifying the original. After downloading, you can open the result separately and check not only the number of folders but also specific old emails, attachments, contacts, and calendar events. If your goal is to fix pst file outlook online, work with a duplicate created after CHKDSK rather than repeatedly modifying the only surviving archive.
Outlook 2003 cannot open folders from an old PST file
Recovering an Old Outlook 2003 PST File When the Default Email Folder Error Occurs
Question:
I transferred an archive from Microsoft Outlook 2003 on my old computer to a Windows 7 PC to access my old business correspondence. At first, the PST file opened, but after copying it back and forth between an external drive and the computer a few times, Outlook started displaying the error: The set of folders cannot be opened or Unable to open your default email folders. The file size remained roughly the same, but most of the folders are inaccessible. How can I try to recover such an old PST file, regardless of which local version of Outlook is installed?
Answer:
In older PST files, corruption can affect the folder service tables and indexes, even if the total file size remains virtually unchanged. An additional risk arises when the archive has been copied multiple times between drives and one of the operations was not completed successfully. Instead of reconnecting the corrupted file to Outlook 2003, you should save a separate copy of it and upload it to the specialised cloud service Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Outlook 2003 does not need to be installed on your device for the analysis itself, since the analysis and recovery are performed online. The service transfers the recovered data to a new Unicode PST file, which is particularly convenient for further work with the archive in more modern versions of Outlook. After recovery, it's a good idea to open the new PST file on a separate computer and check the folders by year, sender, and specific messages that should definitely be present. For an old archive, an online outlook repair pst file approach also avoids depending on Outlook 2003 being installed and able to open the damaged
The PST file became unreadable after working with it via Dropbox and RDP
How to Fix Error 0x80040116 in an Outlook 2016 PST File
Question:
I use Microsoft Outlook 2016 on my office computer running Windows 10 and sometimes connect to it via RDP. The archived PST file was stored in a Dropbox folder. After the remote session was interrupted during synchronisation, Outlook stopped connecting to this archive and displays the error 0x80040116, File Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Restarting Dropbox and Outlook doesn't help, and the archive contains several years' worth of local emails that aren't on the server. How can I recover the contents without risking permanently corrupting my only copy?
Answer:
Simultaneous Outlook writing and synchronisation of a large PST file may have caused certain parts of the file to be in different storage states. First, stop synchronisation for the affected instance and save the most complete PST file to a regular local folder as a separate copy. Do not use this file as your active archive until the recovery is complete. To extract the data, upload a copy of the PST file to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and wait for the process to complete—including upload, analysis, and recovery. This will result in a new PST file containing the items that were successfully read, recovered, and saved. After verifying the new file, you can store it locally and then move the necessary messages from it to your Outlook 2016 working folders. This is a typical case for users asking how to repair outlook data file online, because the recovery can be performed on a local copy after Dropbox synchronization has been stopped.
Windows displays a CRC error when reading Outlook.pst from a USB drive
Recovering an Outlook 2019 PST file after a Cyclic Redundancy Check error
Question:
I have Microsoft Outlook 2019 on a computer running Windows 10, and my backup PST file has been stored on a portable USB hard drive for a long time. When I tried to copy the archive, Windows reported a read error several times, and Outlook won't open the resulting file; it displays the message Data error. Cyclic redundancy check, or The file Outlook.pst cannot be opened. The PST file contains family correspondence, photos in attachments, contacts, and old calendar events. I managed to copy one copy of the PST file to my internal SSD. What should I do next?
Answer:
A CRC error primarily indicates a problem reading data from the storage device, so the corruption may have occurred even before Outlook attempted to open the PST file. If a copy of the PST file has already been successfully saved to a healthy SSD drive, it's best to continue working with that copy without subjecting the old USB drive to any unnecessary operations. Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ can be used to analyse, recover, and save the resulting PST file, as well as to search for readable items within the corrupted Outlook data store. Even when some physical blocks of the original PST file are lost, other messages and attachments may still be recoverable. The service places the recovered items into a new PST file, which can then be downloaded separately. Afterwards, you should check for the presence of important folders, emails, and attachments, since the degree of preservation of different elements within a single PST file may vary depending on the extent of the storage medium's damage. For users looking up how to repair corrupt pst file online, the key step is to work from the copy already saved on the healthy SSD instead of stressing the failing USB drive again.
Scanpst returns Fatal Error 80040818
How to Recover an Outlook 2021 PST File When Fatal Error 80040818 Occurs
Question:
After a RAID array failure, I recovered a working PST file and am trying to open it in Microsoft Outlook 2021 on a computer running Windows 11. Outlook won't open the file, and Scanpst terminates with the message: Scanpst reports 'Fatal Error 80040818' when trying to repair the PST file, and errors have been detected in the Outlook.pst file. Close all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool. The PST file contains important messages, tasks, notes, the address book, and employees' calendar entries. Is there any point in analysing this file using a different method if Scanpst crashes?
Answer:
After RAID recovery, individual file blocks may be readable but may be in a state that disrupts the expected internal structure of the PST file. A "Fatal Error" during Scanpst means that this particular repair method was unable to process the corrupted area, but this error does not confirm the complete absence of recoverable objects. Save the PST file recovered from the RAID as the source file and create a separate copy of the PST file for further recovery. You can upload the copy to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online cloud service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and perform analysis and recovery without making any changes to the original file. The service compiles the recovered data into a new Unicode PST file so that you can view the results independently of the corrupted PST file. After recovery, it is especially important to check several key folders—Inbox, Sent Items, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks—rather than judging the result solely by the total size of the new PST file. If you are researching how to repair outlook pst files online, a separate analysis method is reasonable when Scanpst terminates before it can process the damaged archive.
An old Outlook 2002 PST file won't open in another version of Outlook
Recovering an Outlook 2002 PST file in case of incompatibility or corruption
Question:
I have an old Microsoft Outlook 2002 archive from a computer that no longer works, and now I'm trying to retrieve the emails from it on another PC running Windows 7. When I connect the PST file, Outlook displays the following message: FileName.pst file could not be opened. The file may not be compatible with this version of Outlook, or it may be corrupted. I'm not sure if the problem is due to the age of the format, an incomplete copy from the old IDE drive, or actual corruption of the PST file. How can I extract the contents without having to find various old versions of Office to read the file?
Answer:
An old archive may have two issues at the same time: peculiarities of early versions of the PST format and actual corruption of individual structures that occurred during copying from a worn-out drive. Therefore, simply switching between Outlook versions doesn't always help identify the true cause of the error. First, save the original PST file separately and work only with a copy. You can upload the copy to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online cloud service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, where recovery does not require running Outlook 2002 on your computer. The service analyses and recovers the PST file and transfers the found messages, folders, and other available items to a new Unicode PST file. After that, it's easier to check the result in the most recent compatible version of Outlook, while keeping the old PST file unchanged in case additional recovery attempts are needed. An outlook online repair process is useful with an Outlook 2002 archive because it does not require installing or locating the original legacy version of Office.
The Outlook 2000 PST file has exceeded the old 2 GB limit
How to Recover an Overflowed Microsoft Outlook 2000 PST File
Question:
I was using Microsoft Outlook 2000 on my old computer, and its PST file gradually grew larger until Outlook stopped displaying folders and messages properly. Now the file has been transferred to a computer running Windows 7, and when I try to open the old archive, I encounter the following error: OL2000: Unable to use your personal folder file if it exceeds the 2 GB size limit. The file contains emails and contacts that aren't saved anywhere else, so I don't want to experiment with my only copy of the data. Is it possible to extract the contents of the old, overfilled PST file and save them to a modern PST file?
Answer:
For a PST file in the old ANSI format used by earlier versions of Outlook, a size of about 2 GB is critical, and exceeding this threshold can lead to serious problems with the file's structure. Simply copying the archive to a more modern version of Windows does not fix the corruption that has occurred within the PST file itself. Before taking any action, you should create a backup of the old file and avoid manually reducing its size using unknown utilities. You can then upload the copy online to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ to search for recoverable messages, contacts, folders, and other objects. The service saves the recovered data to a new Unicode-formatted PST file, which is no longer subject to the old 2 GB limit for Outlook 2000. The latest versions of Microsoft Outlook consistently work with PST files up to 50 GB in size. When the PST file size approaches 50 GB, Outlook may occasionally freeze and display strange errors. For an oversized legacy archive, outlook pst repair online can recover readable items into a modern Unicode PST while the original ANSI-format file remains unchanged.
Outlook 2003 Began Crashing After a Virus Attack
Online recovery of an Outlook 2003 PST file after a virus infection and program crash
Question:
On an old computer running Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2003, the antivirus detected malicious files and quarantined several items, after which Outlook began crashing when opening the local archive. The following message appears on the screen: Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The Windows scan has already completed, but the PST file containing years of email still causes Outlook to crash. How can I try to recover the archive without restoring the suspicious files from quarantine?
Answer:
Following a virus infection, the problem may be caused by either a corrupted PST file or an interrupted write operation to the file during system cleanup or an unexpected shutdown of Outlook. There's no need to restore potentially dangerous files from quarantine to get the old Outlook running again. First, create a copy of the existing PST file and keep the original as a backup. You can upload this copy to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ from a verified device via a web browser. The service will analyse the structure of the mail store and generate a new PST file from the detected items. Before using the recovered PST file, you must scan it with up-to-date antivirus software and then open it as a separate archive in your Outlook profile. Using microsoft outlook recovery online from a clean device also lets you avoid restoring quarantined files simply to make the old Outlook installation run again.
A specific Outlook 2010 folder stopped appearing after working with a network drive
How to recover an Outlook 2010 PST file when the Unable to display the folder error occurs
Question:
On a terminal computer running Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2010, I was working via RDP with a PST file that was temporarily located in a network folder on the file server. After a brief network interruption, Outlook froze, and now when I try to open one of the folders, the following message appears: Unable to display the folder. The file Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Other Outlook PST files work normally, so reinstalling the program is unlikely to solve the problem. How can I recover the folders from this specific file?
Answer:
If other PST files open normally, the error does indeed seem to be caused by local corruption of this specific PST file. The network disconnection during the PST file update may have left some of the folder or message tables incomplete. First, move the accessible copy of the PST file from the network resource to a local, healthy drive and save a backup copy. Then upload the working copy of the PST file to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and perform the recovery. The result will be a separate PST file containing recoverable data that can be saved. Therefore, you won't need to repair the original network archive directly over the network. You can connect the new PST file to Outlook 2010 as an additional storage location and check the problematic folder, as well as adjacent folders, since logical corruption sometimes affects the links between multiple sections of the archive. In this network-drive scenario, Online Outlook repair is safer when performed on a local copy rather than directly on the PST file across the network.
After running CHKDSK, the Outlook file became corrupted and unreadable
Recovering an Outlook 2013 PST file when Windows error 0x80070570 occurs
Question:
An old PST file from Microsoft Outlook 2013 remains on a Windows 10 PC; it was located on a disk partition with file system errors. After running CHKDSK, Windows can see the file again, but attempting to copy or open the PST file results in the following message: An unknown error prevented access to the file. Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. I managed to create a readable copy of the PST file on another SSD, but Outlook does not display the old emails and contacts from it. How can I use this copy of the file for online recovery?
Answer:
Error 0x80070570 indicates data or file structure corruption at the Windows level, so it's important to first obtain the most readable copy of the PST file on a functional storage device. If such a copy already exists on another SSD, you should not continue experimenting directly on that copy; instead, create another duplicate. This is the duplicate you can upload to Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online: https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. During recovery, the service analyses the file's contents as an Outlook storage file and attempts to extract recoverable objects, even if the original PST file can no longer be opened normally. The recovered data is written to a new Unicode PST file and downloaded separately. Afterwards, you can check the new PST file in Outlook 2013 or a more recent compatible version, paying special attention to the dates, folders, and contacts located in the corrupted areas of the original disk. For users searching how to repair corrupt pst file online, the readable SSD copy is the correct source to duplicate and submit for recovery.
Outlook for Microsoft 365 displays error 0x8004060C after storage overflow
How to Recover Outlook Data When Error 0x8004060C Occurs
Question:
On my work laptop running Windows 11, I use Outlook for Microsoft 365 with Exchange, but in addition to the OST file, I have a large local PST file connected that contains old projects. As a result, there is almost no free space left on the SSD. Outlook has stopped sending and receiving email properly, and the following error is displayed: Task Microsoft Exchange Server - Receiving reported error (0x8004060C): Unknown Error 0x8004060C. After freeing up space, server-based email syncs again, but some folders in the local PST file remain inaccessible. How can I restore the archive separately without affecting my work Exchange account?
Answer:
A lack of free disk space may have prevented Outlook from completing the write operation to the local PST data file. Therefore, even after Exchange has been restored to normal operation, the corrupted PST file remains a separate issue. In this situation, there is no need to change the server mailbox or delete the intact OST file. First, close Outlook, save a copy of the problematic PST file, and then restore only that copy of the PST file. Upload the copy of the PST file to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, where the contents will be analysed independently of your current Exchange profile. A new PST file will be created and saved from the found emails, contacts, appointments, and other items. You can then connect the recovered archive to Outlook as an additional data file. After that, you can transfer only the necessary folders from it without interfering with the synchronisation of your main Microsoft 365 account. Here, outlook pst file repair online can target only the damaged local archive while leaving the working Exchange mailbox and OST synchronization unchanged.
Due to a network outage, your Outlook archive emails are missing, and you can only access them from your phone or tablet
How to recover an Outlook PST file online from an Android device or iPad if your work computer is unavailable
Question:
On an office laptop running Windows 10 and Outlook for Microsoft 365, I had Exchange set up along with a separate PST file containing local archived emails that aren't on the server. After the corporate network went down, Outlook started displaying the message: Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator if this condition persists. Then, after restarting the computer, the local archive also stopped opening. The laptop itself is currently with the administrator, but I have a copy of the PST file saved in my cloud storage, and I only have an Android smartphone and an iPad running iOS. In Outlook on my mobile devices, emails from the server reappeared after the network was restored, but, of course, my old local emails aren't there. Is it possible to run a PST file recovery via a browser on a mobile device and get a separate file containing the archive?
Answer:
It's important to distinguish between two separate issues here: the network error relates to the connection to Exchange, whereas the missing local archive was contained within a separate PST file and is not expected to appear on mobile devices after the server is restored. If you have access to a copy of the corrupted PST file from your phone or tablet, you can upload it online to the Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Online service at https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ via a browser without launching the desktop version of Outlook on that device. The service processes the uploaded PST file and generates a new Unicode PST file containing the recovered emails, folders, contacts, appointments, tasks, and other available items. You can save the resulting PST file until your work laptop is back in service or transfer it to another computer. However, the PST format is primarily intended for use in a compatible desktop version of Outlook; the mobile Outlook app on Android or iOS should not be considered a means of directly opening a local PST file. Once you have access to a Windows computer, you can mount the recovered PST file separately and retrieve the necessary archived information from it. From a phone or tablet, online outlook pst file recovery can be started in a browser as long as the corrupted PST copy is accessible from the device or its cloud storage.

Excelente programa, mis felicitaciones.
super recovery, very fast and did a perfect job, can recommend to any one looking for recovery software.
100% ist Gut!
Hello Recovery Toolbox team,
thank you very much for your support. One of my PCs froze, forcing me to do a hard reset. At the time, Outlook was open. After the restart, Outlook could no longer find the PST. Renaming the PST wasn't possible, even in safe mode. Apparently, a program was accessing the PST even though Outlook was closed on all computers. A Google search led me to your tool. After the repair (2-3 hours), I was able to save the PST under a new name and use it again.
Thanks again.
Best regards, Dietmar Kroschel
I needed to access OST files on an old hard disk. As I don't use Outlook as email client, I needed to find a tool. I was not recovering from corrupted data.

Had my agenda only in the ost, so not synched to the webmail.
After making a new profile my agenda items were gone. Used the Recovery tool for Outlook to restore the items to a PST from a backup of the old OST files. And then copied them back to my agenda.
This worked well although only the agenda item are restored, not the attachments and extra information field.
VERY GOOD
Really works. It identifies the bad sectors and skips them while getting rest of the data out.
Love it.. except.. you should consider including a PAUSE/RESUME button. Just sayin'. Thanks.
I wanted to send a large pdf file (20Mb).
While sending I disrupted this process (turned off pc?). As a result I had an unclosed mail in my pst-file. As a result my pst-file was corrupted and my outlook could no longer be started/opened.
This tool fixed PST-file.
Recovery Toolbox for Outlook was able to convert an .OST to .PST, but the ability to open the .PST is missing. The help text says it is under the File menu, but all that is there is "Exit".
Хорошая вещь! Отлично справляется, за секунду исправил испорченный файл.
I don't know if the files were damaged, but they could well have been. These two files were backups of PST files that I had made before transitioning from the POP mail protocol to IMAP.
IMAP attached itself to my original emails and, apparently, those stored as backups. Then all the open folders in Outlook began to disappear until there were none remaining. I had no clue what had happened. I couldn't imagine they were hijacked and held at the mercy of my ISP. Then IMAP somehow transformed my PST backup files into OST files, which Outlook 2024 cannot read.
The Toolbox was able to quickly and efficiently recreate the files as PST.
That allowed me to restore and open every one of the 24,000 files.
Later, I learned that IMAP doesn't just sync emails created after its implementation but every file that it automatically and without permission opens in Outlook. I was unaware that this caused me to exceed my storage limit, leading to the disappearance of my 24,000 emails.
It is a hazardous, intrusive, and damaging protocol. It is also a potentially lucrative source of business for your company.
Best
nice
I exported from Oulook 365 a folder with a lot of e-mails, ans had a .pst 2,28 Go file. Then, I did a factory reset of my PC. I could of course import the pst file in Outlook, but I did not wanted to do that, in order to avoid duplicates in Outlook. So, I used Toolbox recovery to convert the pst file in msg, ans I copied and paste the msg files in Outlook, and it worked perfectly.
I am using Microsoft Outlook and for some unknown reason I was unable to export my OST file to PST file.
Windows stopped working properly and I had to restore it. It went well, but I lost all the applications that were not part of Windows, such as Microsoft Office.
I reinstalled Microsoft Office but Outlook can't open the OST file. So I had to use Recovery Tollbox to convert it to a PST file.
Everything went well and I recovered my old emails and contacts.
Okay, here is the why I am so frustrated at the moment with the recovery of emails from Outlook.
Apparently, there was an upgrade to Outlook that my system allowed and the program would not load. I followed instructions on how to get it to load from MS support forum and it finally loaded however all my contacts were lost. Again, following MS support I deleted the email account and reinstalled it and that is when everything went south in a big way.
Now I had some of my contacts back (from the cloud) but none of my stored files inside Outlook. I purchased the Recovery Toolbox to retrieve those files. While running the program I could see the files being recovered in the folders and subfolders that they were originally stored in. But, when the recovery was complete the files were not in the folder and subfolder in my Outlook but in individual unsorted and ungrouped emails. That said, the folders and subfolders did come over as they were supposed to on my Iphone! Well, now Outlook determined that I am over quota on emails and will not let new emails arrive.
I deleted as many non-essential emails, files and folders that I could in Outlook so that I can receive a few emails before I have to delete some more. I AM AFRAID TO DELETE OR MOVE ANY OF THE FOLDERS AND SUBFOLDERS ON MY IPHONE FOR FEAR THAT I WILL LOSE THEM.
So, I want to get away from Outlook so downloaded em Client but when I try to allow Outlook to download my main email to the new program I get the error “there was an error obtaining credentials via oAuth”.
And that is where I am, stuck with no way to consistently receive emails on my main email address and no way to move my emails to a new program. Also, I am really afraid that I will lose all the folders and subfolders on my Iphone if I don’t get them saved to a hard drive or somewhere else.
Excelente Aplicación
Hello.
I don't know exactly what I expected, but probably more than I got.
It may well be that my emails were recreated but all emails are empty. I can see sender and recipient but that's all.
I had probably hoped that some emails could be recreated so that I could read the whole email. But no waste of money.
Kind regards
Kuno Nielsen
all perfect ! good job thanks
Çok Güzel bir program.
Excellant software
Dear Support,
Glad to tell my story here what went wrong.
I had this new e-mail account in Japan which I wanted to add to my Outlook.
I have a windows 11 laptop with the new outlook.
The e-mail account is a pop3 account, but I could not add it to my outlook.
Adding it to my Android phone worked.
Adding it to another PC with Windows 10 and the old outlook worked as well.
So I thought the new outlook was to blame here and switched it back to the old version ( there was switch button in the outlook to do so) And yes, I could add the new account ( late at night)
Next morning, starting outlook and collecting mails from several accounts worked for all but one.
For one account it suddenly wanted to know the password, but did not accept it.
Inspection of the accounts then learned that Outlook had all my E-Mail accounts converted to IMAP accounts.
(except for the Japanese account added the night before.)
This seemed to work for all account but one.
So I was stuck with this one account in IMAP which needed to be POP3 Account.
First I had to recover this E-Mail account via the Web interface putting password and security codes several times.
So I googled the Internet on how to convert IMAP to POP3 and I learned you just have to delete the IMAP account and create a new POP3.
Here is where the real trouble started....
I figured out that I need a backup, but saved then the .OST files instead of the .pst files, not knowing there is no easy way to get from .ost to .pst.
So I could set up the new account and load my E-Mails from the last weeks, but the folders I missed.
That’s where I came across your tool and could convert the .ost file.
So partially I can put the blame on Microsoft for not accepting the POP3 account in the new outlook and setting existing accounts to IMAP, Partially on me, for not saving the correct .pst file but the .ost instead.
Maybe you can do something with this information.
Kind regards,
Paul van Eden.
